A partnership between ENGIE and APRR will soon enable electric trucks to travel between Paris and Lyon without running out of power through new charging stations.

ENGIE and APRR are teaming up to create a network of 5 electric charging stations that are 100% dedicated to heavy goods vehicles and buses. This aims to decarbonize transportation and promote electric mobility. Deployment is scheduled for summer 2024.

The electricity giant ENGIE and the APRR motorway company will jointly develop this network of chargers along the highway between Paris and Lyon, with about one station every 150 km. APRR and ENGIE justify this choice by the high volume of trucks and buses on this route.

They estimate that heavy trucks are responsible for 27% of CO2 emissions from transportation. This is despite them representing only 1.3% of vehicles on the road in France. Therefore, developing this greener transport sector is important to improve air quality and contribute to the fight against climate change!

Stations involved in this electric charging station project

These high-power charging stations will range from 400 to 500 kW. For reference, the “ultra-fast” charging stations for light vehicles currently have a power of 350 kW.

Three stations along the Lyon-Paris route will soon feature these ultra-fast chargers: Beaune-Merceuil, Venoy Soleil Levant, and Achères Est. In the opposite direction, La Forêt station will support this effort to combat pollution.

According to the list of future stations in the APRR network, the Galande station will supply electricity to heavy vehicles in both directions. Additionally, the motorway company has developed a final ultra-fast charging point with another partner, called La Réserve, on the Paris-Lyon route.

At each station, there will be two chargers allowing multiple vehicles to recharge simultaneously. This will enable drivers to continue their journey with peace of mind!
