The future Porsche Macan electric engine in a boat

A collaboration between Porsche and the Austrian company Frauscher has resulted in an electric boat boasting 545 horsepower.
All sailors will tell you: fuel costs are staggering. Therefore, even the pleasure boat industry will adopt electric propulsion more quickly as the savings become tangible. The Swedish company Candela has already established a name in this market, notably thanks to the futuristic design of its hydrofoil-equipped boats.
Porsche has formed a technical collaboration with Austrian Frauscher to promote its upcoming all-electric SUV Macan, expected in 2024, in an original way. The German sports car manufacturer supplied the shipyard with an electric powertrain whose output has been limited to 400 kW, approximately 545 horsepower. This engine-battery-electronic system can deliver up to 600 horsepower in the future Macan. All of this is housed in a perfectly sealed enclosure at the center of the boat.
Four driving modes are also designed: Docking (speed reduced to 15 km/h or 8 knots when mooring), Range (autonomy), Sport, and Sport Plus.
Thus, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air boat has begun testing on Lake Garda in Italy. Its 100 kWh battery provides an excellent range of about 100 km, versus approximately 45 km at full speed (85 km/h). Regarding recharging, Porsche’s 800-volt technology allows the 850 Fantom Air to be charged at 250 kW, enabling a 10 to 80% fill in just 30 minutes. A slower 11 kW charge option is also available.
Finally, for a fun fact, the start button is located to the left of the steering wheel, just like in all Porsche vehicles. Commands are already open for a limited series of 25 units, priced at €561,700 each.
