Electric Boat Voltari 260 Sets Distance Record

The rise of electric technology is essential to reduce ocean pollution, but only if electric boats can sail far enough.

The Canadian company Voltari specializes in the development of electric boats but also offers turnkey solutions to convert traditional boats into electric ones.

The manufacturer’s new innovation is called Voltari 260. This high-performance outboard motor is first distinguished by its entirely carbon fiber hull, which, despite being more fragile, allows for a significant weight saving. A positive point in terms of efficiency. It also features a “performance” hull at a 24-degree angle for better air penetration.

“We created the Voltari 260 to offer the freedom to explore open waters for extended periods, and with the success of this voyage, the team witnessed firsthand the capabilities of our latest innovation in this rapidly growing industry“, said Cam Heaps, founder and CEO of Voltari. 

However, it’s not in design that the Voltari 260 will make headlines. But rather in its range. The manufacturer traveled 91 miles (146 km) between Key Largo in the Florida Keys and Bimini in the Bahamas in 20 hours. According to Voltari, this is the longest trip made abroad by an electric motorboat. 

A very powerful electric motor

This feat is made possible by the 142 kWh lithium-ion battery, which requires virtually no maintenance, likely greatly reducing the operating costs compared to traditional boats. Other features include a weight of 3,175 kg and a draft of 31 inches. In terms of power, the Voltari 260 boasts a peak power of 550 kW, or 748 hp, and an impressive torque of 1,350 Nm. Enough to reach 96 km/h!

The price matches the technological content, with an asking price of 418,000 euros.
