An Electric Café Racer from Maeving

The Maeving RM1 is the first hand-crafted British electric motorcycle manufactured in Coventry, the British motorcycle capital.

Those joining the electric transition movement have more choices than ever, but many models lack character. With its RM1, Maeving offers an irresistible look with a great look-price ratio. A stylish urban motorcycle that could turn quite a few heads.

The first advantage of this British bike is its charging system, which is notably simple with a fully removable home battery, custom-designed, that can be recharged on any standard 3-pin power outlet. Just slide the battery out of the motorcycle, bring it home, and plug it into the charger. Maeving claims it takes less than four hours to go from 0% to a full charge. The powertrain is supplied by Bosch, so no surprises here.

The RM1 can operate with a single battery (up to 65 km of range) or two batteries in parallel (doubling the range up to 130 km). When you’re not using the second battery, the top storage compartment provides 11 liters of waterproof, lockable storage space, along with a USB-C port to safely charge a portable device while riding. The two battery compartments are electronically operated for quick and secure access with just a press of a button.

This is the electric equivalent of a 125cc, so to ride the RM1, you only need a car or A1 motorcycle license and to follow the regulatory training at a driving school. An ideal first motorcycle for beginners and a stylish machine for more experienced riders.

But the main highlight of this Maeving is, of course, its look! The large circular LED headlight reminiscent of mid-20th-century motorcycles. A conduit housing the main wiring has been shaped to resemble the characteristic piping of gasoline engines. The slim, aerodynamic faux tank houses the battery and storage space and is extended by a solo “bobber” seat. With spoked wheels, the whole package is simply very well designed.
