The Mercedes Vito 4X4 Takes to New Heights for the Gendarmerie

Ten Mercedes Vito 119 CDI 4×4 are now in service in the Pyrenees for public safety missions in the mountains.

The Gendarmerie of the Pyrenees has received ten Vito 119 CDI 4×4 Tourers, intended for missions requiring off-road capability and versatility. These “steel blue” vehicles, close to the classic “police blue,” continue a long tradition of vehicles adapted to difficult terrain, alongside the Citroën C15 4×4, Peugeot J5, and the first Vito 116 CDI 4×4 delivered as early as 2008, some of which are still in operation in Chamonix.

These Vito 119 CDI PROs have 8 seats and do not compromise on the comfort of their occupants. These public mission vehicles have nothing to envy from their private counterparts, featuring Comfort front seats with lumbar support, semi-automatic TEMPMATIC air conditioning, and the MBUX multimedia system. The 9G-Tronic automatic transmission ensures smooth gear shifting, while the OM 654 turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 190 hp and 440 Nm of torque, a determining factor for the Gendarmerie during the UGAP tender process.

The vehicles were customized by CORBEL, with gendarmerie signage and level 1 reinforced windows, increasing their resistance by 150 times. They will be mainly used in the Occitanie region for public safety interventions in mountainous or hard-to-reach areas.
