To expand its rental of bikes and e-scooters for free-floating mobility, the French-Dutch company Dott receives a new investment of 62 million euros.

The company Dott is still young, having been founded only in 2018. But it is already establishing itself in the world of electric micromobility, and continues its ascent with a major investment.

50,000 electric bicycles and scooters in circulation

After 3 years of activity, Dott launched its second phase of fundraising. Following the initial influx of 75 million euros in 2021, a new funding of 62 million euros supports the Franco-Dutch company. It is driven by Abrdn and Sofina, Scottish and Belgian investment funds.

Today, Dott reportedly has over 40,000 electric scooters in its fleets across Europe. In fall 2021, the company entered the e-bike rental sector for free-floating mobility, with 10,000 units available. According to Dott, the number of trips made has increased by 130% compared to 2020. A figure that should be nuanced, after periods of lockdown during the Covid-19 crisis.

Dott invades Marseille and Europe

In France, Dott has already made an impression in the capital. Its free-floating scooters have been present in Paris since April 2019, to compete with Lime and now Tier, then increased their number to 5,000 by late 2021. Electric bike rentals later joined the platform with 3,000 units distributed, directly challenging Vélib’ service, or directly competing with Lime and Pony. In Paris, the price is the same for bikes or scooters: €1 to unlock, then €0.23 per minute.

The company does not plan to stay still. It already operates in multiple cities in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland, Norway, and Finland. In France, it entered a fourth city, Marseille, on January 30, 2022, after Lyon and Bordeaux.
