Lime has introduced an exciting new model, the LimeGlider, a brand new seated vehicle designed without pedals.

In addition to its white bikes, Lime has chosen to include green balance bikes in its fleet of shared vehicles. Even though the brand, in its statement, sweeps through all the trendy expressions by talking about an inclusive, decarbonized, urban vehicle,… It is nothing more than a good old-fashioned balance bike!

One thing is certain, and perhaps this should have been emphasized by Lime, is that these new vehicles will accelerate the abandonment of car use in cities by targeting a new clientele. Naturally, we think of seniors and people with reduced mobility for whom a scooter or a bike are inaccessible. On the other hand, an electric balance bike without pedals is ideal! The LimeGlider thus combines the comfort of sitting and the lightness of a bike with the ease of a scooter. Constructed with footrests instead of pedals, this vehicle allows users to mount and take off very easily. The smaller 20-inch (50 cm) diameter wheels are an intelligent evolution that makes the vehicles more accessible. The LimeGlider features a step-through frame for easier access. The larger padded seat is positioned closer to the ground to provide a lower center of gravity for riders. Finally, it is equipped with ergonomic grips to reduce fatigue. So a big yes for the inclusive aspect that we validate.

Lime has not overlooked practicality, with wider front baskets designed to accommodate bulkier items, while the lower positioning of the baskets on the front tube facilitates turning when they are full. Generally, significant work has been done to lower the center of gravity of the machine. The lower this is, the better the stability. A set of smart choices, including large 2.5-inch tires, keeping in mind the urban use of the device and the inevitable sidewalks, speed bumps, and access ways to be negotiated for bike paths.
