This Strange Electric Vehicle Is a Best Seller on Amazon!

Greenwashing or ecological awareness? Amazon continues its efforts to electrify its delivery fleet.

The commercial relationship between Rivian and Amazon dates back to 2019, when a historic agreement was signed to deliver 100,000 electric delivery vans by 2030. This US-US strategic partnership aims to reduce carbon emissions related to Amazon’s delivery activities while strengthening Rivian’s position in the electric utility vehicle market. The first units were put into service in summer 2022, marking the beginning of a genuine ecological transformation for e-commerce. In that regard, Amazon’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint with greener energy and less packaging deserve applause. When it’s good, we can acknowledge it!

Three years after the start of deliveries, Rivian recently reached a significant milestone by surpassing 20,000 vans delivered to Amazon. By the end of November 2024, the e-commerce giant had an expanded fleet, with a notable 33% increase in just four months. This figure is somewhat misleading since after a series of delays, Rivian managed to produce an additional 5,000 units since the last report in August, reflecting a substantial acceleration in production pace.

These vehicles, designed and manufactured in the United States, actively contribute to Amazon’s green logistics. In 2024, they facilitated the delivery of over one billion packages across the United States. Despite this success, a major challenge remains… producing and delivering the remaining 80,000 vehicles by the end of the decade, which will require a much higher production rate than the current 700 units per month! With only 20% of the goal achieved in two and a half years, the future of this collaboration will depend on Rivian’s ability to increase its production while maintaining its quality standards.
