This Hydrogen Alpine is Set to Hit the Road

On May 11, 2024, the Alpine Alpenglow will make its first laps on the prestigious Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

This is a very special Alpine that will take to the track on Saturday, May 11, at the opening of the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps, the third round of the 2024 FIA WEC World Endurance Championship. It will not be the only A-branded prototype on the track that day, as two Alpine A424 entered by the French team Signatech, led by Philippe Sinault, will also try to assert themselves on the Ardennes rollercoaster.

The Alpenglow is powered by an internal combustion engine running on hydrogen. The two fuel tanks are located on the sides of the car, on either side of the driver who is seated in a central position. The Alpine concept is a treasure trove of subtle details such as the transparent movable wing, the red-tinted light signature at the front and blue at the back, the wheels designed to resemble snowflakes, and the transparent backlit paddles around the steering wheel.

Alpine charts its Zero Emissions route

Just a few years after its resurrection, Alpine is on the brink of a major change. The manufacturer is preparing to close the chapter on internal combustion engines to enter the era of electric vehicles with the launch of the A290. The Alpenglow concept shows that hydrogen is also a credible alternative.

The name Alpenglow is not an invention of Alpine. The term already exists, and it refers to the reddish light that appears on the mountains at dawn. The parallel is easy to draw: this concept heralds the beginning of a new era for Alpine, just as the Alpenglow announces the arrival of a new day.
