Here is the blueprint of Stellantis’s future monsters

The STLA Frame platform from Stellantis is designed for small utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and large SUVs.

Designed for large vehicles up to 6 meters long, the third multi-energy platform of the Stellantis alliance, named STLA Frame, shares the versatility of its two smaller counterparts, STLA Medium and STLA Large, emphasizing great flexibility. It is compatible with engine technologies including internal combustion, hybrid, hydrogen, battery electric vehicles (BEV), and extended-range electric vehicles (REEV). This choice is subject to debate at a time when major manufacturers are making clear architectural choices, especially regarding 100% electric vehicles. Batteries are not placed in the same location as a fuel tank, and multiple electric motors can be distributed across a chassis where internal combustion engines are typically located under the front hood. In short, an electric car does not have to look like a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.

However, STLA Frame is intended for a very specific category of vehicles: large pickup trucks, light commercial vehicles, and Stellantis SUVs. Offering a range of propulsion options for this vehicle type is an advantage as it allows targeting a broader customer base. A customer who does not drive many miles will appreciate a fully BEV system, while a high-mileage driver might prefer a long-range electric vehicle configuration (REEV). STLA Frame can also accommodate internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen propulsion systems in the future.

The platform is designed for a BEV range of up to 800 kilometers and a REEV range of up to 1,100 kilometers. It can host enormous liquid-cooled battery packs from 159 to over 200 kWh. The motors at the front and rear, with power outputs up to 250 kW, can be combined to provide all-wheel drive. Suspension design, including pneumatic suspensions, offers optimized driving performance regardless of driving conditions and loading scenarios.
