Kia Recharge

No more hassle with recharge cards. Kia is about to launch a safe and intuitive solution in Europe called Plug&Charge.

It’s a small convenience at charging stations that will significantly improve the daily lives of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle drivers. Kia is launching the Plug&Charge service on its electric vehicles in Europe. Plug&Charge will be available on the EV9 from launch, before being gradually rolled out to other electrified models in the brand’s lineup. This technology will allow Kia customers to connect their electric vehicle to all compatible public charging stations without using a physical charging card. No identification or intermediate steps are required to start the charging process, as authentication is fully automated. While not a revolution in itself, it is a highly anticipated evolution combining speed, security, and convenience.

« Plug&Charge is one of the most practical technologies that helps reduce manual manipulations, resulting in a faster and smoother charging experience for our customers,

explains Sjoerd Knipping, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Kia Europe. By offering our customers electric vehicles and state-of-the-art charging solutions, we aim to facilitate the shift to sustainable mobility and position ourselves as serious competitors in the highly competitive EV market in Europe. »

A fully automated recharge combining simplicity and security

The Plug&Charge solution is a directly integrated identification method in the vehicle that allows it to communicate with compatible stations. The customer simply plugs their vehicle into the charging station to automatically initiate the process. This service is entirely secure, to the point that no additional measures are required. Until now, the customer had to identify themselves at the charging station first, either with an RFID card or via a mobile app.

Thanks to this intuitive technology, the customer can simply unplug their vehicle after charging and hit the road again. The cost of the session will be added to their monthly bill in accordance with their contract terms.
