Riese Muller UBN Seven 2022

The German manufacturer Riese & Müller unveils its unprecedented range of city electric bikes with the Urban Line UBN Five and Seven.

Renowned manufacturer, Riese & Müller – named after the founders – has been offering high-quality bikes for 30 years. Its transition to e-bikes began in 2013, also successfully. Today, the catalog is highly comprehensive and continues to expand with a new model.

A serious yet minimalist urban bike

R&M has introduced the Urban Line range, which could compete with some Canyon. As its name suggests, it’s intended for city use, moving away from the VTC spirit of other models. The German brand aimed for simplicity by refining the frame design, similar to the Roadster, without front suspension. The 28-inch wheels with Tektro disc brakes are designed to accommodate fairly absorbent balloon tires, specifically Schwalbe Marathon Supreme.

The Urban Line offers two variants, the UBN Five with a traditional frame and the UBN Seven with a trapezoidal (semi-open) frame. Both feature an electric system from Fazua. The Ride 60 motor in the crankset delivers 60 Nm, paired with a removable 430 Wh battery integrated into the frame. Estimated range is at least 70 km, considering the weight between 18 and 20 kg.

The Riese & Müller Urban Line bikes do not feature a display. The Fazua system shows only battery level and modes via five LEDs on the top of the frame. The interface even includes a USB-C port for charging your phone. For further information, the RX Connect mobile app displays the speedometer, trip history, and geolocation. An alarm warns of potential theft, and functions like “Smartlock” or the “System Lock” will be integrated soon, says the manufacturer.

What is the price of the Riese & Müller UBN?

The two models, UBN Five and Seven, are available in three versions:

  • Touring: Shimano Deore 11-speed derailleur
  • Silent: Shimano Alfine 8-speed derailleur
  • Singlespeed: single speed

Prices are the same whether for the open or trapezoidal frame: €4,949 for Touring, €5,049 for Singlespeed, and €5,249 for Silent.

In addition to the different models, two colors, and three frame sizes, Riese & Müller offers the option of front suspension. The Suntour GVX32 with 60 mm travel is available as an option (€332.90). Considering the price, one might regret that the Abus wheel lock (€50.90) isn’t included as standard, along with the “Comfort” kit comprising a curved handlebar, grips, and a wide saddle tailored specifically for €51. At least, these two Riese & Müller bikes come with fenders and a rear rack capable of carrying two panniers up to 7.5 kg each.

The first deliveries of these two UBN Five and Seven bikes are scheduled for summer 2022. It is still possible to configure them and view the partner dealers on the official website.
