Little by little, Porsche is establishing itself in the cycling world, confirming the arrival of electric motors under its own brand name.

The Porsche manufacturer primarily focuses on sporty and luxury cars. Evidence of this is its latest announcement about a future “Prestige” SUV, even larger and more expensive than the Cayenne, but 100% electric. However, this does not prevent it from partnering with new mobility solutions.

Upcoming Porsche bike motors

For several months, Porsche has been actively communicating about bikes. In 2021, the brand launched its first two e-bikes: the eBike Cross and eBike Sport. However, these models are quite elitist, with prices of €7,990 and €9,990. Then, in February 2022, the manufacturer announced a 20% stake in Fazua. In June, it took full control by acquiring the entire German manufacturer.

The company has just revealed the next step. “We see great potential for Porsche in the electric-assist bicycle segment,” states Vice President Lutz Meschke, “that’s why we are expanding our activities in this sector.”

One of the two joint ventures—created with the company Ponooc, an investment fund financing Yego scooters or Swapfiets — becomes Porsche eBike Performance, and will develop motors for electric bicycles. “This includes motors, but also batteries and the necessary software architecture for connectivity solutions,” Porsche specifies.

This activity incorporates Fazua’s expertise but will also design electric motors branded under Porsche. They could power Porsche bikes as well as other brands. Today, Fazua supplies its units to many manufacturers, including Canyon or the latest Riese & Müller UBN.

Could there be Porsche bikes with Porsche motors? Patience is needed…

The second joint venture is called P2 eBike. It will be the brand of bikes equipped with these Porsche motors, but only “around the middle of the decade”, roughly 2025. The brand emphasizes that the partnership with Rotwild, which supplied the current e-bikes, will continue in parallel.
