Auvergne: 1,000 km of cycling routes by 2028

During a plenary assembly of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, representatives announced their intention to reach 1000 km of bike lanes by 2028.

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has many bike lanes for thrill-seeking cyclists. Between the steep high mountain roads, endless vineyards on the hillsides, and the singing of cicadas in the flatlands, you’ll find happiness as a cyclist.

A good piece of news based on facts: they will soon be able to travel new routes within the region. Moreover, the regional council is releasing funds to maintain the “Remarkable Villages.” They will receive renewed financial support similar to 2018.

This will delight seasoned cyclists, Sunday riders, and villagers. A renewal of their living environment and visitors from all over the world will be present following this expansion.

What are the announced new bike route axes?

In addition to the ViaRhôna and Via Allier cycling routes, new sections in Puy-De-Dôme, Isère, Savoie, and Ardèche are under development. The map below allows you to locate yourself using a color code.

The “Via 5 Lakes” section project is particularly interesting. It will go around five lakes in the region, on a route connecting Lake Geneva to Lake Paladru. This bicycle route will pass by Lakes Bourget, Aiguebelette, and Annecy. It promises very beautiful vacation photos and a refreshing break for city dwellers. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has invested €23.4 million since 2016 in this road decarbonization project. It has thus developed more than 479 km of bike routes and plans to add €130 million worth of cycling infrastructure in this direction.
