LPG for cheaper driving in Renault Clio, Captur, and Symbioz
Renault updates its LPG offering with a new, more powerful, more autonomous engine, now available with an automatic gearbox in the Clio.
Against the trend of a market largely focused on electrification, Renault continues the development of its LPG offering by updating the Clio, Captur, and Symbioz. The three models receive a new generation of bi-fuel petrol/LPG engine called Eco-G 120, replacing the old Eco-G 100 with improved performance.
This new 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine now delivers 120 hp, representing a gain of 20 hp, while torque increases by 30 Nm to reach 200 Nm. Renault thus announces better driving pleasure while maintaining the economic advantages traditionally associated with LPG.

The main new feature concerns the Renault Clio, which becomes one of the few LPG models on the market offered with a double-clutch automatic EDC gearbox. This transmission adds to a range that already includes petrol and hybrid versions. Renault announces a 0 to 100 km/h time of 9.8 seconds, an unprecedented level for a Clio running on LPG.
For its part, the Symbioz Eco-G 120 retains a six-speed manual gearbox. Positioned in the C segment, it emphasizes versatility with a range of up to 1,500 km thanks to the combination of petrol and LPG tanks. The Clio claims up to 1,450 km of range. The LPG tank’s capacity has actually increased by 25% to reach 50 liters.
The operation remains the same as in previous generations: when the LPG tank is empty, the vehicle automatically switches to petrol, without driver intervention. It is also possible to manually select the fuel used.

Renault finally reminds us that LPG still benefits from a well-developed distribution network, with about 1,600 stations in France and particularly significant presence in Mediterranean countries as well as Central and Eastern Europe. According to the manufacturer, this engine also allows for an average reduction in CO₂ emissions of about 9% compared to an equivalent petrol engine, while limiting the cost of use thanks to fuel that is generally cheaper at the pump.
