Rolls-Royce Goldfinger

Like any masterpiece, a Rolls-Royce does not age; it improves with the years. But a reinterpretation never hurts.

Rolls-Royce has unveiled a one-of-a-kind Phantom Extended that pays tribute to the 1964 James Bond film, Goldfinger, one of the twelve appearances of Rolls-Royce in the 007 film franchise.

Revealed in the year of the film’s 60th anniversary, it draws inspiration from the 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville owned by the eponymous villain, Auric Goldfinger. This story is masterfully reimagined in this Phantom Goldfinger, featuring exquisite and ingenious Bespoke characteristics related to the plot and iconography of the film. A total of three years were required to bring to life a multitude of elegant and playful features that are entirely bespoke. From a complex sculptural gallery inspired by the famous scene filmed on the Furka Pass to a gold putter mounted inside the trunk of the car, reminiscent of the club used by Auric Goldfinger during his first meeting with James Bond.

James Bond’s first encounter with Goldfinger takes place at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, UK, where 007 challenges him to a game of golf. Goldfinger uses a gold putter, which is securely guarded by his henchman, Oddjob. For the 2024 Phantom Goldfinger, the gold-plated putter has been recreated and mounted on the underside of the trunk lid. The club features a specially designed “AG” monogram, inspired by the engraving on the signet ring worn by Goldfinger on-screen. The umbrellas that fit into the rear doors of the Rolls-Royce have even been finished in the same red, blue, green, and yellow colors as those accompanying the golf bag.

Later, while alone with Goldfinger’s Rolls-Royce Phantom III, Bond places a tracking device supplied by Q on the car, which he uses to follow the villain across Europe. Rolls has developed a device, inspired by the original gadget, that subtly projects the 007 logo onto the carpet of the luggage compartment floor each time the lid is opened.

As a finishing touch, the precious British license plate “AU 1”, which adorned the Goldfinger Phantom III in the film, is an integral part of this Phantom Goldfinger, which has been delivered to a significant customer and Rolls-Royce collector based in England.
