Oh the naughty Rolls!!!

Rolls-Royce Spectre Semaphore

Rolls-Royce customizations usually transport us into a dream world of luxury, but this Spectre Semaphore leaves us somewhat skeptical…

Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Spectre Semaphore, a unique bespoke commission that will make its global debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, the major automotive event on August 16, during the Monterey Car Week 2024 in California. This customization of the Rolls-Royce Spectre aims to attract a younger clientele, but it seems that Rolls struggles to grasp the codes of this demographic!

The body is finished in semaphore yellow, the color that gave this commission its name. A dull chick yellow that does not really honor the powerful lines of the Spectre. The overall look is enhanced by a unique “work of art” on the hood, named “Marbled Paint Spill”. It’s hard to translate simply; let’s just say it loosely combines the southern California sun and the peaks of the silvery mountains of the east. An unharmonious flaming limited to just the front hood, which seems merely placed there to do the job. To create this pattern, Rolls-Royce artisans applied a silver lacquer and several layers of varnish. The entire process took more than 160 hours of work, but it would have taken much more to match, for instance, Lamborghini’s latest creation! And frankly, limiting the exterior customization to a single area is unworthy of Rolls-Royce.

Inside, there is a combination of lemon yellow and rather dull citrine yellow, almost washed out. Thankfully, a bit of white and gray brings some calm to the somewhat aggressive overall look, and precious wood adds that touch of luxury we expect from a Rolls-Royce.

Only one Rolls-Royce Spectre Semaphore will be built, and that may not be such a bad thing. In this case, we will pass our turn while waiting for a more inspired creation.
