Mercedes AMG One

Nearly 5 years after presenting the concept, Mercedes finally reveals the production AMG One.

The final version of the Mercedes-AMG One, eagerly awaited by car enthusiasts. It is finally here, announced on Wednesday, June 1. The date was not chosen at random: it is exactly on June 1 that AMG was founded 55 years ago.

For those who might not know, the Mercedes-AMG One was designed as a sort of road-going Formula 1. Its hybrid engine operates more or less like that of a single-seater. It delivers a total power of 1,063 hp and can reach 11,000 revolutions per minute. Moreover, the maximum engine speed has been intentionally limited for durability reasons.

A V6 and 4 electric motors

Mounted in a central-rear position, the combustion engine is a “small” 1.6-liter turbo V6. With 574 hp, it is supplemented by several electric motors. In total, there are 4: a 122 hp motor within the turbo to optimize its operation, another of 163 hp in the engine driving the crankshaft, and finally two motors on the front axle producing a combined power of 326 hp. This particularly complex plug-in hybrid system distributes power between all four wheels. The V6 operates with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

The electric motors draw their energy from an 8.4 kWh battery. Once fully charged, the Mercedes-AMG One can operate in all-electric mode for about 18 km.

A carbon fiber shell

The risk with such a complex powertrain is that the car becomes heavy. Mercedes-AMG has therefore undertaken a major weight-saving effort, using carbon fiber for the shell, bodywork, and rims. The result: the One weighs only 1,695 kilograms. To ensure braking performance, the German brand selected ceramic-composite discs.

A true road-going F1, including inside! The driver can choose from 6 driving modes.

Now a word about performance, which is necessarily exceptional. The AMG One can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. 0 to 200 km/h is achieved in 7 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 15.6 seconds. As for the top speed, it reaches up to 352 km/h. Based on technical data, the AMG One also manages to keep its consumption at 8.7 liters/100 km and emissions at 198 grams of CO2 per km. However, these figures mainly highlight the limits of the current homologation cycle.

275 units

The Mercedes-AMG One will make its first public appearance in England, at the Goodwood Festival (June 23-26). All 275 units expected to come off the production line are already reserved. Each one will have cost its lucky owner 2,275,000 € excluding VAT.
