Lamborghini Temerario

The replacement for the Lamborghini Huracan was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. What a beauty!

It was highly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. Replacing the brilliant Huracan, which marked the end of the Italian manufacturer’s history with the atmospheric V10, is no simple task. This engine could no longer fit with its time, and engineers had to find a solution to keep their supercar relevant. For months now, Lamborghini has been engaged in a vast electrification program (see Carpooling with Stephan Winkelmann, Ah n°2462) that is bearing fruit. The large SUV Urus has halved its consumption while being more performant. The same goes for the Revuelto supercar, which boasts more than 1015 horsepower and has managed to stay true to the 6.5-liter V12 thanks to hybridization. Not all is lost!

Beautiful and daring?

To make us “forget” the Huracan and lift our spirits, Lamborghini has presented its new creation, called Temerario, which now features a hybrid 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 developing up to 920 horsepower. The maximum engine speed is set at 10,000 rpm! Three electric motors help propel it to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, and then to 343 km/h.

The thermal engine alone produces 800 horsepower between 9000 and 9750 rpm and 730 Nm of torque. A first motor is placed between it and the gearbox to ensure immediate response and eliminate turbo lag with an addition of 300 Nm of torque. Up front, two other electric motors add 220 kW (300 horsepower). With overlapping power curves and strategies, the total output (for this entry-level version) is thus 920 horsepower. Let’s bet that more aggressive and rebellious versions will tap into this reservoir of electric power.

The aluminum chassis is completely new, while the design cleverly combines modernity and nods to history. The rear end is particularly stunning, and the homage to the Countach is barely concealed.

-50% CO2 emissions

This is a power extravaganza to excite the handful of die-hard fans who use a 300,000-euro Lamborghini for track days or Gumball rallies instead of buying a true race car designed for that (safety, weight, durability of parts, etc.). For everyone else, the idea behind the Temerario is to lower consumption to be accepted by society. And this is achieved thanks to a small 3.8 kWh battery that allows for a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions. Better yet: this Lamborghini is hybrid and can be recharged in just 30 minutes.

Another advantage of the electric motors is to provide, at the front axle, torque vectoring to enhance dynamics during both braking and acceleration. Finally, power is delivered to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch gearbox with 8 speeds. And for the record, the sandwich-mounted electric motor can recharge the battery while the V8 is running.

In conclusion, the cockpit remains very true to the Lamborghini universe, with modern touches once again. The interior dimensions are a bit more generous than with the Huracan, with +46 mm for legroom and +34 mm in seat height, so you no longer hit your head on the ceiling.

Orders are not yet open, so please be patient.
