Geely’s European Ambitions Are No Longer a Laughing Matter

Comment

With Zeekr, Lynk & Co, and Geely Auto, the Chinese glove is launching a cautious but determined offensive on the European continent.

Geely’s premium brand, Zeekr, unveiled its latest urban minivan, the Zeekr MIX, for its European debut. In addition to the MIX, Zeekr also highlighted its 001 FR model, a powerful sedan, and its newest addition, the Zeekr X. The brand also showcased the latest innovations from Geely Holding used in the company’s electric vehicles, including an 800 V electric architecture, high-performance silicon carbide electric motors, and a charging technology touted as the fastest in the world. It is said to achieve charging speeds close to 1 km per second! Charging your car as quickly as refueling is no longer a dream.

Lynk & Co is certainly the most recognized brand in Europe within Geely’s portfolio. Its SUV 01 launched an innovative low-cost fully digital rental concept, which unfortunately soared to 600 euros per month. The recently revamped model may breathe new life into the concept, but serious adjustments to pricing are necessary. Lynk & Co also presented its first purely electric model, the Z10, highlighting the brand’s commitment to electrification.

Geely finally showcased two new 100% electric models under its own name for the global market, the EX5 and E8. The premium SUV EX5 has been developed from the outset with both left-hand and right-hand drive versions and is already available in 89 markets, including Norway, Indonesia, Thailand, and Australia.

The lingering question everyone had on their lips was: Is Geely considering manufacturing models in Europe? While no official communication has been made on this topic, all media present reported that the respondents unanimously answered in the affirmative. It remains to be seen whether Geely will build its own units or partner with a European manufacturer. It is known that agreements have already been made in this regard with the Renault Group. Perhaps we will get the first answers at the Paris Motor Show.
