The Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng is expanding its network to the Netherlands and Sweden to compete with Tesla and Nio.

In the automotive sector, Chinese brands are still somewhat anecdotal in France or Europe. But they have never driven so much on the continent: the MGs (5,000 sales in France in 2021), Hongqi in the Top 20 in Norway, or Nio with the ES8 in Germany.

4 occupied European countries

Xiaopeng, whose name has been changed to Xpeng for international markets, is part of this expansion. And it has ambitions for Europe. The brand began its journey in April 2020 in Norway. It initially offered the SUV G3, before the large sedan P7 in October 2021. This was followed by expansion into Denmark, the second European country for Xpeng.

The company will strengthen its presence on the Old Continent by adding two new countries. Through distributors Bilia and Emil Frey, the brand will enter Sweden and the Netherlands, starting March 2022. These markets represent great opportunities for electric vehicles, accounting for 20% market share.

The first Dutch site will open in The Hague, while three centers in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö will serve the Swedish market, in addition to a dedicated store opening this week. The models available have not been announced, but only the P7 is displayed on the respective official sites.

Xpeng has not yet announced its intention to enter France.

Xpeng, the small rising Chinese brand

In terms of sales, Xpeng is still small compared to the giant Tesla and its 936,000 cars last year. The Chinese manufacturer has sold only 150,000 vehicles since its inception. But the figures are steadily increasing, with nearly 100,000 units just in 2021 and about 16,000 units in December alone.
