More than just a concept, the Denza Z raises an essential question: are we ready to accept that the future of the sports car is now electric?

With 1,604 hp, a 0 to 100 km/h in 1.96 seconds in its Racing version, and a recharge capable of going from 10 to 97% in just nine minutes, the Denza Z no longer competes in the category of electric sports cars. The new supercar from DENZA, the premium brand of the BYD group, goes straight to challenge the most exclusive hypercars… at a price announced to be close to that of a Porsche 911.

Beyond the technological demonstration, it is this equation that is particularly striking. Whereas developing an internal combustion engine with over 1,500 hp would require years of research and gigantic investments, an electric architecture with three motors now allows reaching these performances with efficiency and development costs that are incomparably lower.

The Denza Z symbolizes this break. With an 800 V architecture, vector torque control, DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, and Flash Charging of up to 1,500 kW: electric power no longer merely replaces the internal combustion engine, it completely changes the rules of the game.

A car to live fast and slowly?

And the most confusing aspect may be elsewhere. Once the Track or Boost modes are turned off, the Denza Z becomes an almost ordinary car again. Despite its 1,604 hp, this four-seater sports car drives with the simplicity of a family electric sedan. No clutch, no temperamental engine to keep in its ideal range, no gearbox to master. The power is available instantly but remains perfectly manageable, while the numerous electronic assists make its daily use surprisingly accessible. An ease that would seem completely inconceivable in a thermal supercar producing equivalent power.

Of course, mechanical enthusiasts will continue to prefer the character of a Porsche flat-six or the sound of a naturally aspirated V8. A sports car is not just a technical specification, and the pleasure of driving retains a strong emotional dimension.

But the industrial reality is now difficult to ignore. Thanks to electrification, producing a car with over 1,500 hp is becoming almost mundane. Performances that were once reserved for a few multi-million euro hypercars are now accessible at a price comparable to that of a high-end sports car.
