The Eco Bonus Fair is Open!

Manufacturers have until December 15th to submit the files for their vehicles sold in France and hope to benefit from the future Ecological Bonus.

In two months, the list of vehicles eligible for the new version of the Ecological Bonus will be published. Exactly 66 days are available to manufacturers to demonstrate the good environmental virtue of their cars, a sine qua non condition to continue benefiting from the generous government bonus.

For a Fairer Bonus

It is no longer enough to simply be electric to be environmentally friendly. To be eligible for this aid, the vehicle must meet a minimum environmental score. This score takes into account the entire environmental impact of a vehicle from its manufacturing to its use on the road.

The methodology chosen to determine which electric vehicles will be eligible for state aid is quite simple and based on an environmental score assigned by the ADEME, the Agency for Ecological Transition. According to the organization, electric cars must achieve a minimum score to remain eligible for the ecological bonus. The scoring considers four main criteria: the materials used to produce the vehicle, the energy consumption related to assembly, the type of battery in the car, and finally the method of vehicle transportation: CALCULATION FORMULA FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCORE

The list of eligible cars will be published by the government on December 15th. Manufacturers will be able to challenge the downgrading of their vehicles, which promises some spirited debates among experts and a fierce communication war.

China in the Crosshairs, but Not Only

Obviously, this list will be particularly limited since, to our knowledge, vehicles among the top 10 best-sellers in France such as the Dacia Spring or the entire MG range will be excluded. However, the list could still hold some major surprises, for example the rejection of the Mini Cooper! An Asia-produced vehicle lightweight and favoring recycled materials might, on the other hand, qualify. Byd Dolphin, Smart #1, Leapmotor T03… The bets are on!
