Auto: The Eco Bonus Will Be Reduced

According to several consistent sources, a first threshold of 4,000 euros is expected to be established for the wealthiest households.

When all voices agree, a rumor is no longer just a rumor. A government source told AFP that the government is considering reducing the ecological bonus for purchasing an electric vehicle to 4,000 euros starting January 1st, down from the current 5,000 euros. The decision will be officially announced in a decree published no later than December 31st.

This measure will only concern households with the highest incomes. It is expected to stay at 7,000 euros, with the existing increase of 2,000 euros for the more modest households, which still account for 50% of households according to the eligibility criteria implemented!

Furthermore, these households will benefit from social leasing at 100 euros per month for an electric car starting January 1, 2024. A much more advantageous scheme than buying outright, even with the bonus, but it is expected to be limited in the first year to 20,000 to 25,000 models.

With a completely revamped Bonus system and the launch of social leasing, one cannot ignore the government’s efforts to develop electric transportation. The budget allocated by the state to these measures is estimated at 1.5 billion euros in 2024. It’s a pity it didn’t come sooner to counter the Chinese Tsunami.
