The cheapest electric car on the market gets a new update

Dacia will unveil its new electric Spring at the Geneva Motor Show. So, a new car or just a simple evolution?

A first image, or rather a silhouette, of the small electric Dacia has appeared on social media. The compact electric car with a city SUV look is expected to undergo a serious interior and exterior facelift. Rumor has it that the model’s technology will also evolve. With a battery of only 26.8 kWh, it must be acknowledged that it can no longer genuinely compete with the new models introduced on the European scene.

An outdated Spring

The Spring is currently built on a CMF-A platform that is already 7 years old. Besides the Spring, this technical base has been widely used around the world for various electric, hybrid, and thermal models. It even equipped a Datsun! If Dacia aims to take its city car to the next level, it will need to completely rethink this platform or look towards the future star of the Renault brand, the electric Renault 5.

Cousin alliance with Renault 5?

Let’s be honest, these are only assumptions for now, but Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, has repeatedly expressed his desire to share this electric technology. With over 60,000 units sold last year, the Spring still carries a strong reputation and could significantly help amortize Renault Group’s investments. Challenging its rival Citroën, which has garnered media attention with its new ë-C3, would certainly please the lively Luca de Meo. The answer will come on February 26… at the latest.
