Tesla unveils the weekly production figure for the Cybertruck

Tesla Cybertruck

The production rate of the Tesla Cybertruck is picking up speed, but satisfying everyone will still take years.

Where are we with the so-called million Tesla Cybertruck reservations made ahead of the start of its production, in December 2023? First, we know that the production method of the Cybertruck is complex, very complex even. So much so that the initial sale price considered at the time of its presentation, at the end of the 2010s, has nearly doubled since then.

Furthermore, the production of the huge 120 kWh battery pack has not been without problems. The range is still very disappointing, but how could it be otherwise with a vehicle that is 6 meters long and weighs over 3 tons?

From a very slow trickle, production is now ramping up. Tesla announced on April 4, 2024, that 3,878 units of its Cybertruck were produced between December 2023 and the end of March 2024. That’s barely 1,000 units a month. Why this very precise figure? Because it was referencing a recall of all Cybertrucks produced due to an electronic accelerator failure. Not very glorious. At this rate, it would have taken 83,333 years to satisfy demand…

Some big bullshit?

Let’s wager that the demand has never reached 1 million reservations and that this number has decreased due to cancellations. The initial promises of price and range, as well as order of deliveries, have never been met by Tesla.

Tesla now admits that the production of its Cybertruck has reached a rate of 1,300 units per week. A real surge that should drastically reduce wait times. Tesla is not boasting about this figure and maintains its goal of producing 2,500 Cybertrucks per week by the end of 2024. This will bring the annual production to around 125,000 Tesla Cybertrucks.
