Led by Tesla and its first model, the idea of the electric roadster is gaining more followers.

Polestar has just confirmed the arrival of a new electric roadster. Previewed by the O₂ concept presented in March 2022 in Los Angeles, the model will be officially named Polestar 6.

Polestar is already inviting interested customers to reserve “a production slot”, specifying that the vehicle will be sold for around $200,000. The launch is scheduled for 2026, well after that of the MG Cyberster. In the meantime, Tesla is expected to have launched its new Roadster as well.

A roadster focused on performance

The Chinese-Swedish brand has set ambitious goals. The Polestar 6 will need to reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds. Its range is expected to exceed 300 miles (approximately 480 km).

Equipped with an 800-volt electrical system, the Polestar 6 will be powered by 2 motors. The combined power will reach 884 hp, with a maximum torque of 900 Nm. These figures are roughly similar to those announced for the Polestar 5, which will use the same architecture.

Initially, Polestar will sell a limited launch series of 500 units. This version, called the “Polestar 6 LA Concept edition,” will be sky blue like the O₂ concept car. It will also feature its light-colored leather interior finish and 21-inch wheels.

The launch series will feature the blue hue of the O₂ concept shown above.

When the electric roadster is launched, the Chinese-Swedish brand’s lineup will already be well expanded. Polestar, which belongs to Chinese automaker Geely, plans to launch one model per year starting from this year. A SUV called Polestar 3 will kick off the lineup in the second half. Next, the Polestar 4, an SUV coupe expected in 2024, will arrive, followed by the Polestar 5 sedan, due in 2025.
