Polestar 5 Goodwood

A prototype ahead of the final Polestar 5, scheduled for 2024.

The 2020 Precept concept announced the arrival of a large electric sedan in the Polestar lineup. Two years later, engineers have made significant progress on the project. The final version of the car is not yet ready, but a prototype is already stealing the show at the Goodwood Festival, which is currently taking place across the English Channel.

Presented as a 4-door GT, the Polestar 5 will position itself as a rival to the Tesla Model S or the Audi e-Tron GT. The photos taken at Goodwood give an initial idea of the car’s design, which will largely stay true to the previously mentioned concept. Naturally, the final model will lose the prototype’s rudimentary look.

The final model will obviously be less rough around the edges.

Two Electric Motors

Polestar is taking this opportunity to announce the power of its upcoming sedan. And it will be quite impressive, reaching up to 884 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. The Polestar 5 will feature an 800-volt architecture and have a motor on each axle. “The new powertrain we are developing will set a new benchmark for high-performance cars,” explains Jörg Brandschei, R&D director at Polestar. “The combination of strong electric motor engineering capabilities with advances in lightweight platform technology results in truly remarkable cars.”

The Polestar 5 is expected to arrive on the market in early 2024. Before this model, the brand will also launch two SUVs, the Polestar 3 and 4. The first, scheduled for release by the end of the year, will be a large and high-end model. The Polestar 4 will be both more compact and more affordable. It will join the manufacturer’s catalog in 2023.

Polestar Still Blocked in France

It remains to be seen whether all these models will ever be marketed in France. For now, the young automaker is blocked by a legal action initiated by Citroën, which argues that the logo of the Chinese-Swedish brand closely resembles its own.
