Dodge Challenger électrique concept 2022

The American brand Dodge is preparing an automotive revolution by converting its sedan Charger and coupe Charger into electric models.

SUVs, sedans, city cars, utility vehicles, pickups—all categories of cars are going electric. What about sports cars? Since the Tesla Roadster of the 2000s, few have attempted the feat. However, supercars like the Rimac Nevera or Pininfarina Battista have made the leap.

A Dodge Challenger concept in a few days?

The enthusiasm for electric vehicles is such that even the most resistant are joining in. Specifically, we’re talking about muscle cars. These American cars are symbols of power with their large V8 gasoline engines, throaty noise, and no compromise on fuel consumption. But this won’t last, at least at Stellantis, and specifically through the Dodge brand.

A spokesperson reportedly confirmed to our colleagues at Motor1 that the powerful Dodge Challenger and Charger will have no combustion engine successor. “The next generation will be electric” can be read. But when? The brand will unveil a preview concept in a few days. Keep an eye on August 17th for a presentation of the future muscle car in Pontiac, Michigan.

What drives the Dodge Challenger and Charger is that “electric motors can deliver even more” than the 840 hp Demon version (see video below). The brand even considers “an obligation” to provide this advantage to its customers, noting a “natural evolution” of the muscle car. The concept will certainly keep fans waiting for at least 18 months, as production versions are not expected until 2024.

The return of electric sports cars?

More than Dodge Challenger, other brands are set to introduce electric sports cars. For example, the famous MG convertible will return in a new generation, inspired by the Cyberster concept. The Alpine A110 E-ternity has shown the way for the brand’s electric future, including the next version of the coupe. But we won’t have to wait until 2025. Too bad, because the upcoming Porsche 718 will come first, based on the Mission R prototype.

The Tesla Roadster will also accelerate. With over 400 km/h top speed, 0-100 km/h in under 2 seconds, and 1,000 km of range, the American supercar promises excitement. However, it was first unveiled in 2017 and won’t be launched before 2024. Looking further ahead, by 2030 at the latest, Toyota has promised future electric sports cars. They will probably replace models like the Supra, MR-2, and Lexus LFA.
