MG Motor MG4

After making a quite striking debut in the electric compact car market, the MG4 will expand its lineup in 2023, with not just one but two new versions.

No need to introduce the MG4 anymore. Since its launch, the Chinese electric compact has become one of the main attractions in its category. Very well positioned in terms of pricing without being cheap, it enjoys great commercial success and allows the manufacturer to continue its rapid rise on the Old Continent. In France, MG Motor finished 2022 with 13,170 registrations, a figure up 166% compared to the previous year.

While the ZS was still MG’s best-selling model in 2022, it would hardly be surprising if the MG4 overtakes it during its first full year on sale. To maximize the potential of this model, MG is planning to add two new versions: an MG4 “Grand Autonomy” and an XPower with a more sporty character.

0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds for the MG4 XPower

Regarding the Grand Autonomy, we only know one thing for now… and that is precisely the range, which will reach 500 km. By comparison, the MG4 promises up to 450 km (WLTP cycle) under current conditions. To achieve this figure, it must be equipped with the 64 kWh battery, which is only available in higher trims. The base version, with a smaller battery (51 kWh), offers a range of 350 km.

On the other hand, the MG4 XPower will prioritize performance over range. Equipped with all-wheel drive (and likely a second motor), it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. Power and torque will peak at 450 hp and 600 Nm respectively. All these details were provided by the brand’s French subsidiary during its annual press conference.

MG has not yet announced the launch date for these MG4 XPower and Grand Autonomy versions. Prices are also still unknown.
