MG4 at 22,990 euros today. And tomorrow?

The “Super Prime Electric” MG must end tonight. What’s the future for the MG4 without this boost, which accounts for 23% of its list price?

On December 15, the MG range lost its eligibility for the French Ecological Bonus. Normal for cars manufactured in China. The Sino-British manufacturer did not stay idle for long and launched an in-house bonus of €7,000 across its entire electrified lineup. This is far more than the state grant of €4,000 and applies to many more vehicles.

This boost must end tonight, and at the time of writing, no extension has been announced. Tomorrow, the base MG4 might see its price increase from €22,990 to €29,990? The end of a divine love story with France?

France in love with the MG4

The MG4 is on paper an electric sedan with good range, comprehensive equipment, and an unbeatable price. Even in its Standard base version, the MG4 offers a 51 kWh battery and 170 hp. An interesting version in many respects. Besides its low starting price, it paradoxically offers better performance than the 204 hp version due to a lower weight of about 30 kg, but also because its torque value is the same at 250 Nm. The strongest aspect of this MG4 lies in its performance. 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 7.7 seconds, and the acceleration is more than satisfactory thanks to immediate torque and perfect power management—a true safety for overtaking. An almost perfect copy that became the great surprise of 2023 with outstanding sales figures.

And 7,000 euros more expensive?

Is it the end of the love story between MG and the French public? Not necessarily, because unlike Tesla, which frequently offers promotions and often incomprehensible discounts, MG announces fixed prices and sticks to them. And it works! At €40,000 after all subsidies, the MG4 XPower remains the most affordable family dragster on the market, capable of covering 380 km after accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. At €45,000, the Marvel R Luxury can confidently rival the Peugeot E-3008 and the new Renault Scenic. And the MG4 can continue to appeal to a customer base convinced by the excellent reviews of the model. And our well-informed little finger tells us that dealers will keep offering attractive discounts, so don’t hesitate to ask for them…
