MG Cyberster: The Electric Roadster Aiming to Outperform Tesla
This page is translated from the original post "MG Cyberster : le roadster électrique qui veut devancer Tesla" in French.

The sporty electric MG Cyberster convertible moves from concept to reality with a scoop image hinting at its imminent debut. In Europe as well?
Although unveiled in 2017, the second-generation Tesla Roadster still hasn’t hit the roads. Worse, it has become the last priority for Elon Musk’s company. For those wanting to drive an electric convertible, the Polestar 6 is expected in 2026, and Maserati’s Grancabrio Folgore, but there’s something closer: the MG Cyberster.
Various Influences
Like Tesla, the Cyberster kicked off its communication with a concept car. In 2021, it showcased very sporty lines and hinted at high performance. Quite different from the past British convertible models – now Chinese-owned – via MG A and MG B.
Unlike the American Roadster, the MG Cyberster is imminent. The production version was spotted uncamouflaged in China, on a parking lot at the SAIC manufacturing site, owner of the brand. The influences are therefore numerous, with Polestar’s taillight strip, arrow-shaped turn signals (well observed), and curves reminiscent of Aston Martin. In any case, the single outside image reinforces MG’s upscale positioning, following the glimpse of the latest compact electric MG4.
The interior is also visible, chic like a Porsche, with a semi-wheel steering wheel, trending yoke reminiscent of the Tesla Model S and X, or the Toyota bZ4/Lexus RZ duo. While physical controls still dominate the heavy central console, the MG Cyberster introduces a large curved screen, which should house two displays: one for instrumentation and a touchscreen for the infotainment system.
The MG Cyberster in France from 2024?
Saying that the Cyberster will hit European roads this year is still premature. However, the electric convertible might first launch in China in 2023. As for specs, we can currently only rely on those from the concept: an 800 km range and 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds.
