Mercedes provides little communication about its products, yet its SUV EQB 250+ Edition competes – or even surpasses – the Tesla Model Y. Explanations.

It’s difficult to navigate the sea of promotions. Some seem to be scams or grotesque makeovers, while others can be surprisingly good deals.

This is essentially what Mercedes currently offers with the 250+ Edition versions of its EQA (compact SUV) and EQB (family-friendly and spacious SUV). Both are sold at the lowest price of €46,950, just under €47,000 to qualify for the €5,000 ecological bonus, or even €7,000 if you get rid of an old vehicle through the conversion premium. You must not select any options that would raise the price above this limit. But again, the surprise is a good one!

Due to its more family-oriented size and the financial effort Mercedes has made to keep it under €47,000, Mobiwisy will focus on the EQB body. With the same size as a Tesla Model Y, the version you might get at a discount is surprisingly rich in performance and features… but also in build quality. The biggest weakness of Tesla models.

Firstly, it’s important to note that the EQB 250+ Edition comes with Mercedes’ “Long Range” battery, with a usable capacity of 70.5 kWh. This enables a WLTP combined cycle range of 485 km, while the Tesla Model Y Propulsion claims 455 km. More aerodynamic and lighter, the Mercedes EQA even offers 527 km! Practically, you should expect around 400 km in real-world conditions, but that’s still a very impressive figure!

The only downside is that the charging speed is limited to 100 kW, compared to Tesla’s 150 kW. You can take comfort in knowing that this stresses the battery cells less. Charging from 20% to 80% will take about 35 minutes. Conversely, the onboard charger for home charging accepts up to 11 kW, allowing a full charge overnight or during the day at work.

The power delivered to the front wheels – somewhat less dynamic than a Tesla Model Y – reaches 140 kW or 190 horsepower. Sufficient to comfortably transport the family without unnecessarily draining the battery, especially since the torque reaches 385 Nm.

Regarding equipment, everything necessary is included with the Pack Advantage: 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, digital instrumentation, GPS navigation with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, parking assist, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, air conditioning, electric folding mirrors…

In terms of color options, six metallic shades are offered free of charge, including a very striking rose gold metallic, which is another thoughtful detail. The same goes for the wheels, with two possible designs. Roof rails and tinted rear windows are also included in the price.

Proof that Mercedes is cutting prices, the same EQB 250+ model in a higher Progressive Line trim is priced at €66,750… and is not eligible for the bonus. That’s a final difference of €25,000!
