Lotus once again breaks its codes by unveiling, on September 7, 2023, the first electric sedan in its history.

While the large sedan market is rapidly declining in Europe, this architecture remains popular in Asia and across the Atlantic. That’s why Lotus is launching its third phase of electric vehicles after the supercar Evija and the SUV Eletre.

With its large sedan Emeya — whose original African name combines the adjectives dreamy, wise, and hardworking — Lotus thus aims to compete with the high-end reference, the Porsche Taycan, as well as Tesla Model S. We also wished for a small, sporty coupe, but there is a reason for this order chosen by Lotus.

A clarification of the photo provided by Lotus reveals the curves of the Lotus Emeya.

A member of the Chinese Geely group, alongside Volvo, Zeekr, or Smart, Lotus benefits from already developed and reliable electric platforms that only need customization: bodywork, interior, chassis settings. For the rest, Chinese industrial pragmatism prevails.

Thus, the Lotus Emeya should be a dressed-up Eletre — a very relevant choice, with the only limitation being that it is very heavy. Likely, being less imposing, it will be lighter. Beneath its bodywork, it will feature a 100 kWh battery pack that provides an autonomy of about 600 km, also thanks to a more aerodynamic body that is closer to the road and lighter weight.

In terms of power levels, the Eletre’s motors start at 600 horsepower and go up to 905 horsepower, making it a very serious competitor for the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

Finally, prices are expected to start around 90,000 euros, but Lotus has made such a leap in quality in terms of materials and finish that the current pricing aligns with the luxury market.

All details will thus be revealed on September 7. Patience.
