Huge success for the new Renault 5?

The diamond-shaped brand has already registered over 50,000 reservations for the new Renault 5 Electric.

It took only about a week for the new Renault 5 to fill order books. A predictable success but one whose scale can only delight Luca de Meo.

Aside from an almost universally praised look, the 21st-century R5 features all the advantages of using a truly electric platform, including a flat floor. These characteristics are guarantees of good interior space and a generous trunk volume of 326 liters. Renault also announces a light weight of less than 1,500 kilograms.

A R5 truly of its time

Under the hood, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s electric motor is more compact than that of the Mégane E-Tech electric and Scénic E-Tech electric from which it is derived. A slitted-windings synchronous motor, it remains faithful to Renault’s preferred technology. Without permanent magnets, it reduces its environmental impact. This engine, which benefits from the durability experience of its predecessors, will be offered in three power levels: 110, 90, or 70 kW.

But to truly captivate, it must still honor that playful spirit which made the original R5 a success. Between colorful Pop options, a baguette holder on the dashboard, and an AI-enabled Reno avatar, the promise is kept.

Renault for city dwellers

Versatile, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric aims to be equally comfortable in the city and on holiday routes. But this remains to be confirmed, as with a small 52 kWh battery, reaching the announced 400 km range will be quite difficult. And don’t count on an 80 or 100 kW DC charger to refill the Watts quickly during a bathroom break.

Under 25,000 euros, this new R5 will easily find its place in our cities where its compact size and interior ergonomics will work wonders. Nothing will prevent you from taking a trip to the countryside to stretch the kids and the dog, but the highway is clearly not its favorite terrain.
