Citroën is covering the costs for the Social Leasing of ë-C3!
Offering the new ë-C3 in Social Leasing at 54 euros per month was quite a gamble by Citroën. Unfortunately, the good operation has gone awry.
In this instance, Citroën overestimated its production and delivery capabilities. The deadline for delivering the affected cars was set for September 30, and unsurprisingly, some customers found themselves at midnight without cars. The small issue is that after this date, the 13,000 euro subsidy became void and was replaced by the simple ecological bonus of 7,000 euros. The remaining 6,000 euros would logically fall on the customer, which is a bit of a blemish for an initiative aimed at providing low-income households with access to electric mobility. Especially a very poor communication move for Citroën.
So what to do? Leaving customers in the lurch is unthinkable as it would harm the image of the Chevron brand and its small electric car too much. Should they try to push the contracts to the next Leasing wave in 2025? Certainly possible, but when you order a car for 2024, you want it for 2024. Ultimately, there was only one solution left, the most courageous but also the most costly. Citroën chose to step in for the state to pay the missing 6,000 euros deposit.
Thus, for all customers who signed a contract and whose vehicle could not be delivered by September 30, Citroën guarantees the same conditions as those of Electric Leasing so that none of them are disadvantaged. Certainly the only solution to extricate themselves from the quagmire, but the elegance of the gesture deserves praise.
Citroën now has no choice but to double down on producing the concerned cars, as it is currently unknown how many vehicles remain to be delivered out of the 5,000 sold!
