Brabus Boosts the Smart #5 with Steroids

Smart enthusiasts looking for the Brabus version should look elsewhere. Gone are the days of embellishments; now it’s about high-level technological doping.

The Smart #5 Brabus, the sporty electric version of the SUV, was unveiled at the Milan Design Week, marking a new milestone for the brand now flying the Chinese flag. With a power of 646 hp (475 kW) and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds thanks to the “Launch” mode, this model sets a record for Smart, even surpassing previous Brabus versions.

This SUV uses a flexible all-wheel-drive system likely equipped with two motors, similar to the standard #5 AWD model in China. However, the #5 Brabus stands out in terms of performance, despite being apparently much heavier. It maintains an impressive range of 540 km (WLTP standards), thanks to a 100 kWh NMC battery. Moreover, its 800-volt architecture enables fast charging, taking only 18 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge with a 400 kW DC power supply. This is sure to get you back on the road quickly.

In terms of design, Brabus stays true to its DNA with red accents on exaggerated spoilers, aerodynamic additions all around, specific mirrors, red seat belts, and of course, 21-inch Brabus Monoblock Z black wheels. No doubt, this is authentic Brabus. The interior, both luxurious and sporty, features heated and ventilated seats in Dinamica microfiber, a leather Alcantara steering wheel, and alloy pedals. An upscale ambiance enhanced by 13-inch OLED screens and a 2,000-watt Sennheiser sound system with 20 speakers.

Big battery, aero kit, interior equipment… you might think it’s very heavy and that weight is the enemy of performance? At Brabus, they don’t care; it needs to make an impact when stationary, accelerate quickly, regardless of how it behaves in the first turn. Eye-catching?

This sporty wagon will be available on the initial European markets starting April 24th at a price exceeding 60,000 euros. France is among the prioritized countries, lucky us.
