A Subaru Legend Goes Electric and Arrives in France

Subaru E-Outback

Subaru modernizes one of its most iconic models with the E-Outback, a raised electric wagon expected in France by the summer of 2026.

At Subaru, the Outback has become something of an institution. For over thirty years, the Japanese raised wagon has built a reputation as a reliable companion for long trips, rough roads, and outdoor adventures. In 2026, the manufacturer opens a new chapter with the E-Outback, the first 100% electric version of the model.

Production has just begun at the Gunma Yajima factory in Japan, the same place where the first Outback was born in the mid-1990s. A symbol for Subaru, which aims to maintain the spirit of the model while bringing it into the era of zero emissions.

All-wheel drive, it goes without saying

Under its rugged wagon body, the E-Outback features two electric motors and permanent all-wheel drive, a historical specialty of the brand. The result: 375 hp, a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds, and up to 523 km of range thanks to a 74.7 kWh battery.

Subaru also emphasizes versatility. The trunk reaches 633 liters, and towing capacity climbs to 1,500 kg. This maintains the practicality that has contributed to the Outback’s success over generations.

Even electrified, the model does not abandon its off-road capabilities. With 211 mm of ground clearance, a dedicated X-MODE system for rough terrain, and Grip Control for tricky low-speed sections, the E-Outback is designed for drivers who enjoy outdoor activities.

Fast charging of up to 150 kW allows for a recovery of 10 to 80% battery in less than 30 minutes, while the onboard charger of 22 kW reduces charging times at home or at public charging stations.
