Subaru Electrifies Its Sports Label STI

Subaru awakens the STI spirit with an electric concept, proving that pleasure and innovation can still go hand in hand.

Subaru marks an unexpected comeback of its iconic STI badge (Subaru Tecnica International). After several years of absence and a challenging transition towards electrification, the Japanese manufacturer unveils at the Japan Mobility Show two prototypes symbolizing its sporty future: the Performance-B STI with a combustion engine, and the Performance-E STI, fully electric.

The first, true to the brand’s tradition, retains a turbocharged boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive, two technical trademarks dear to the brand. Its design draws inspiration from the current WRX but adopts more muscular proportions, an aggressive bumper, and a large rear spoiler, an obvious nod to the STI models of yesteryear.

Subaru opens up new horizons

The second, named Performance-E STI, opens a whole other chapter: that of electric sport with a Subaru twist. Presented as a sharp-lined fastback coupe, it features gold wheels, sleek headlights, and a low profile that recall the brand’s glory days in rallying. Subaru promises a spacious interior and a “heritage-inspired” design, suggesting a return to the hatchback format, beloved by WRX STI five-door fans.

No technical details have leaked yet, but the company emphasizes traction and driving precision, two pillars of its reputation. Enough to raise hopes for a future model capable of combining performance, safety, and mechanical thrills, even without the boxer’s roar.
