Mercedes: What is point-to-point driving?

Being accompanied from the start to destination while driving, including in the city: this is the promise of the MB. DRIVE ASSIST PRO system from Mercedes.

Driving aids already know how to keep a car in its lane or adjust its speed on the highway. The “point-to-point” driving extends this assistance to the entirety of a route provided in the navigation system, even in the congested streets of city centers.

With MB. DRIVE ASSIST PRO, Mercedes aims to assist with lane changes, highway exits, positioning before intersections, and turns at junctions. The system can also manage braking and restarting at traffic lights. Once navigation is activated, pressing a button on the steering wheel allows you to request this assistance.

The driver remains responsible

Be careful not to confuse this technology with autonomous driving. Classified at level 2, the system requires constant attention from the driver, who retains control and responsibility for the vehicle. The driver can intervene on the steering at any time: following a route does not mean being able to take your eyes off the road.

To analyze its environment, the system relies on 27 sensors: ten cameras, five radars, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. Their data feed into a computer capable of performing up to 254 trillion operations per second. The whole system combines the MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA’s computing and artificial intelligence technologies.

Early access is planned for late 2026 for certain clients in Stuttgart and Munich. Orders will open in the first half of 2027 in Germany, with remote installation possible on compatible vehicles. Mercedes also plans a one-month free trial after the launch. The models concerned and pricing details are yet to be clarified before commercialization.
