What should be remembered from the government’s electrification plan?

To end France’s dependence on fossil fuels, the government is launching a massive plan aimed at increasing the share of electricity to 38% of final consumption by 2035.

Facing an energy bill of 57.8 billion euros in 2024 and a persistent dependence on fossil fuels that still represent 58% of final consumption, the French government is launching a large electrification plan. This project aims to guarantee a more sovereign, sustainable, and economical energy for households and businesses.

Quantified and Ambitious Goals

The plan sets a clear course: reduce the share of fossil fuels to less than 30% by 2035. To achieve this, several key measures are announced for 2026:

• Mobility: Financing for an additional 50,000 electric vehicles in social leasing and support for the purchase of 50,000 “high mileage” vehicles.
• Housing: Installation of one million heat pumps annually by 2030 and a gradual ban on gas in new construction.
• Infrastructure: Increasing the number of charging points for light electric vehicles on the national road network by five times by 2035.

A Lever for Purchasing Power and Industry

Electrification is presented as a financial gain engine: a household switching to an electric vehicle can save between 800 and 1,500 euros per year on its energy budget. On the professional side, massive aids are planned, up to 9,500 € for light utility vehicles and 100,000 € for electric trucks.

This plan is backed by a solid industrial base with 600,000 jobs and more than 150 factories already mobilized in the sectors related to electrification in France.

A Collective Mobilization

The success of this transition relies on the commitment of key partners. EDF commits 240 million euros to support the installation of heat pumps and the purchase of heavy trucks. Similarly, the Union sociale pour l’habitat (USH) plans to electrify one million social housing units to halve the energy bills of tenants.
