e Solex Pininfarina

The return of the Solex is inevitably an event, especially in France!

Although it has somewhat disappeared from the radar, the Solex is not dead. It is even preparing to return to the forefront, but without its ancient single-cylinder gasoline engine. It will indeed be replaced by an electric motor.

The design of the new Solex moped has been entrusted to the Italian studio Pininfarina. The cover image gives a first glimpse of the result, which seems to strike an interesting balance between modernity and a tribute to the original model. The full unveiling of the two-wheeler will take place at Pro-Days 2022, an event scheduled from July 3 to 5 in Paris. The commercial launch is planned for summer 2023.

Cash Purchase or Long-Term Lease (LLD)

Priced at €4,599, the new Solex will be positioned a notch above the numerous Asian two-wheelers flooding the electric market. It will be manufactured in France, using mostly French components. The electric motor will be supplied by Valeo.

Long-term rentals with maintenance and warranty included will also be offered. Monthly payments will range from €100 to €130. These more flexible and seemingly more attractive options on paper will play an important role commercially. Moreover, they will be prominently advertised in showrooms, rather than the purchase price.

Easybike Takes the Lead

The rebirth of the Solex is orchestrated by Easybike, which bought the brand in 2013. Based in France, this company has been selling Solex electric assist bikes for several years.

An initial electric Solex was launched in 2006, when the brand was owned by another group. However, the initiative ended in failure. Let’s hope the new entrant has a better outcome, especially as it benefits from a more favorable environment. With the emergence of increasingly strict regulations on thermal motorcycles and scooters, the market for electric two-wheelers is indeed set for a bright future.
