Mayers Manx Electric

Between this new Meyers Manx, the AMI Buggy, and other projects like KG Auto’s La Bagnole, a dedicated section will soon be needed to cover electric buggy news.

Do you remember the Volkswagen ID Buggy? This 2019 concept revived the formula that made the Meyers Manx a success—the American buggy created in the 1960s based on a Beetle platform. But while the original ran on gasoline, the ID Buggy featured an all-electric powertrain. After contemplating production, Volkswagen ultimately shelved the project.

Today, Meyers Manx is taking the idea into its own hands and unveiling its own electric buggy, simply called Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric. This new model is introduced two years after Trousdale Ventures acquired the brand, and one year after the death of founder Bruce Meyers, who passed away in California at the age of 94.

A Buggy That Doesn’t Lack Vivacity

With two electric motors in the rear wheels, the Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric will, like the original, belong to the propulsion family. The battery capacity will be limited to 20 kWh in the base configuration, but Meyers Manx will also offer a version with a 40 kWh battery. With this, the power will reach just over 200 hp, and the vehicle should accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds. Since the project is still in its early stages, Meyers Manx cannot yet specify the power of the 20 kWh model. Additionally, the figures announced for the 40 kWh version are subject to change later on.

The Manx 2.0 Electric will feature a built-in 6 kW charger, but can also optionally support fast charging, with a maximum power of 60 kW. Regarding range, Meyers expects 300 miles (480 km) for the 40 kWh version and 150 miles (240 km) for the 20 kWh version.

Electric perhaps, but still very rustic on the rest, notably with a stripped-down dashboard.

The Meyers Manx Electric on the Road in 2023

Before officially launching the vehicle, Meyers Manx will conduct testing with customers willing to contribute modestly to the refinement process. Fifty pre-production units will be delivered in 2023 to facilitate this testing phase. The final Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric is expected to hit the market in 2024. Prices have not yet been set at this stage of the project.
