Vision Marine Phantom: a 100% recycled electric boat

More environmentally friendly, whether in manufacturing or disposal, here is what the Vision Marine Phantom promises, a new 100% recyclable electric boat.

While innovations in the boating world are less spectacular than in aviation or automobiles, each week brings its share of new developments. The latest is credited to the Canadian marine company Vision Marine Technologies, which today presents the first 100% recyclable boat. Named Phantom, it is the result of a joint development with the American company Nautical Ventures Group.

A key feature of the Vision Marine Phantom is that it is constructed using rotationally molded recycled plastic (offered in five colors: blue, red, black, orange, and white), which is produced using a method similar to that employed for small plastic vessels such as kayaks, paddleboards, and some canoes. This type of hull can accommodate up to 10 passengers. The boat is certified compliant with USCG, CCG, and CE standards, and is marketed as “unsinkable” and self-bailing.

The French Group Beneteau Is Interested

Another advantage of this Phantom is that it offers an alternative between a traditional internal combustion engine (up to 50 hp) and an electric motor. A type of engine well-known to Vision Marine, featuring the e-Motion technology used to beat speed records on an electric boat. The French boat manufacturer Beneteau has shown interest and will eventually develop a partnership with Vision Marine to create new models equipped with e-Motion technology.

In the meantime, the prices for the Vision Marine Phantom have been announced, with a base price set at the equivalent of 20,400 euros for the hull without mechanics, but 30,500 euros with the e-Motion propulsion, and finally 36,700 euros for the extended-range version.
