Goodwood 2022 Lotus Eletre

The premier SUV and entry into the electric car world for the British brand, the Lotus Eletre showcases its range and features.

Founder Colin Chapman must be turning in his grave upon seeing this vehicle. His brand now has an SUV, and moreover, an electric Lotus? But it’s in keeping with current trends. Even Lamborghini has succumbed with the Urus, or Ferrari via the Purosangue. Here is the detailed lineup of the Lotus Eletre.

An electric SUV up to 905 hp!

The entry-level model – if we can call it that – is simply named Lotus Eletre. But don’t see it as a sub-model, as it features an electric propulsion of 450 kW (603 hp) and a torque of 710 Nm. The second level is the Eletre S, sharing the mechanical setup but with different equipment: a movable rear spoiler, 2 160 W audio system, tinted windows, or specific ambient lighting.

The Lotus Eletre R boasts a power of 675 kW, that is 905 horsepower (!) and 985 Nm of torque. Thanks to this, the electric SUV accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.95 seconds, compared to 4.5 seconds for the other trims. No practical use on open roads, but the manufacturer wants to show that it has more than a Lamborghini Urus Performante (666 hp), Aston Martin DBX 707 hp, or the Purosangue (725 hp). Beyond thermal cars, one can mention the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 (564 hp) or the BMW iX M60 (619 hp). The R also adds anti-roll control, rear-wheel steering, and a carbon pack.

The price of the Lotus Eletre under €100,000

Beneath the towering 5.10-meter colossus, the battery capacity is 112 kWh, without specifying whether it is gross or net. Nonetheless, it is said that the Lotus Eletre and S could travel up to 600 km on the WLTP cycle with this. The R version, which consumes more energy, drops to 490 km per charge. The maximum recharge power on ultra-fast stations is 350 kW (in theory), allowing from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. However, compatibility with stations like Ionity or Yaway is necessary.

Finally, the question of the Lotus Eletre’s price. Honestly, we expected it to be much more expensive given its performance and battery size. But production in China has its benefits, bringing the entry price below €100,000, specifically €96,890. The S model costs €122,090, and the mighty R jumps to €152,090. The latter aims to contend between the BMW iX M60 (€136,500) and the EQS SUV 580 (€167,750).

Available for order on the configurator, the Lotus Eletre will begin deliveries in summer 2023 in Europe.
