Ionity: Discounts at Renault with the Mobilize Card

Renault’s mobility subsidiary offers discounts on the Mobilize Charge Pass cards for fast charging at Ionity.

The price of electricity increased significantly across Europe in 2022, due to the energy crisis. While the cost of electricity did not skyrocket at home in France thanks to the fiscal shield, it remains high for professionals and in neighboring countries.

Thus, the cost of fast charging for electric vehicles has risen sharply with some providers. But Ionity offers a solution, especially for Renault models.

Three Ionity subscriptions for the Mobilize card

Recall that the Ionity consortium was founded to compete with Tesla by four automakers: BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen (including Audi and Porsche). Initially, the price was very attractive, at only 8 euros per charge, regardless of the amount of electricity used. In 2020, the pricing shifted to the standard per kWh rate, at 0.79 €/kWh, and 0.79 €/min in France. This tariff can lead to recharges costing over €50 on a large sedan or SUV.

However, brands within the consortium benefit from discounts for their electric car customers: more than half off the regular price. Since Renault recently joined the company, it now offers this discount through its recharge card from the Mobilize subsidiary. Thus, with the Mobilize Charge Pass, the current price of 0.69 €/kWh drops to at least 0.30 €/kWh. There are three subscription plans available:

• Mobilize Basic: free, 0.71 €/kWh at Ionity
• Mobilize Active: €7.50/month, 0.55 €/kWh at Ionity
• Mobilize Intense: €17.50/month, 0.30 €/kWh at Ionity

The Mobilize Intense plan is thus more attractive than the direct Ionity subscription (€17.99/month for 0.35 €/kWh).

Another card that works across other charging networks

Renault recommends that electric car owners switch to Mobilize Active for annual mileage between 2,000 and 2,500 km on highways. Beyond that, the Intense plan would be more suitable. The prices are guaranteed for one year.

Note that the Mobilize Charge Pass is compatible with more than just Ionity. It acts as a universal charging card, similar to ChargeMap or Freshmile cards. It provides access to 260,000 charging points across Europe, in 25 countries, including 1,700 Ionity stations. However, check the cost in advance, as a small surcharge of a few cents per kWh may apply.
