Consian Aurora

A stripped-down, customizable electric motorcycle that spins effortlessly from turn to turn: that’s somewhat the goal Consian, a French company, aims to achieve with its new Aurora. Born from a project initiated in 2019, this 125 cc equivalent is currently going through the final steps before commercialization.

Powered by a 6 kW (14 kW peak) motor, this small electric motorcycle reaches a top speed of 90 km/h. Weighing only 85 kilograms (including the battery), it is expected to be quite lively and very maneuverable.

The integration of the battery under the seat gives the Aurora a distinctive profile. This configuration frees up a large space between the legs, which can be filled with a storage box. This box can serve as storage or host a second, optional battery.

The customization options will be quite extensive, with for example several seat colors or handlebar options available. At launch, the Aurora will be available in two versions: Urban and Trail. The first will feature solid wheels and standard road tires, while the latter will have spoked wheels fitted with off-road tires. The Trail will also be recognizable by its raised front fender and headlight grille.

An electric motorcycle with one or two batteries

Regarding range, Consian states 75 km with a single battery, and 150 km with the optional second battery. Naturally, the driving mode (Eco, City, or Sport) will affect this performance. The removable battery will facilitate recharging, which will take 10 hours with a standard charger or 3 hours with an optional fast charger.

The Aurora’s batteries use second-life cells. Through this choice, Consian aims to minimize the environmental impact of its motorcycle. Considering its primarily urban use, reusing these cells should not pose a problem.

The production of the Aurora will take place in France. The first series models are expected to be delivered by the end of 2023. Guillaume Congy, president and co-founder of Consian, indicated that the price would be around €8,000–€8,500 (excluding bonuses). For customers who commit during the upcoming pre-order campaign, in the next few weeks, the price will range between €6,500 and €7,500.
