Trenitalia: What is the assessmen of the competitor to SNCF?

One year after its debut in France, Trenitalia reports a positive initial assessment.

The Italian company Trenitalia was the first to venture into France following the opening of long-distance lines to competition. Each day, it operates 3 round trips between Paris and Lyon, along with 2 round trips between Paris and Milan passing through Lyon as well.

This is a very targeted offer that has apparently found its audience. One year after launching, the company has surpassed one million passengers in France. The company believes that this strong start validates its strategic choices, particularly its pricing policy. Compared to the SNCF, Trenitalia offers more options to its travelers: trains are indeed divided into 4 classes (Executive, Meeting Room, Business, and Standard), with two different atmospheres available in two of these classes.

“After one year of operating the Frecciarossa trains on the French rail market,
the objectives set at the project’s launch are widely achieved,” declares the company. “The average occupancy rate of 70% confirms the attractiveness of Trenitalia’s eco-responsible alternative mobility offer. The high level of customer satisfaction with the Frecciarossa 1000, a comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly train capable of delivering the best of high-speed experience, attests to the relevance of Trenitalia’s strategic choices.”

A Paris-Madrid route under consideration

This good start may encourage Trenitalia to expand its offerings in France. The topic has not been officially addressed but, according to information reported by Le Figaro, the company is now considering a round trip between Paris and Madrid via Barcelona. The service could be launched in 2024.

The Frecciarossa 1000 trains from Trenitalia are approximately 200 meters long. Powered by 16 engines distributed along the train cars, these trains can reach speeds of 300 km/h in 4 minutes.
