Paris-Barcelona by train: what is the fare for the new TGV line?

Since December 11th, travelers can make the Paris-Barcelona trip by train in 6 hours and 35 minutes. SNCF offer starts at 39 euros.

The first TGV INOUI trains to Barcelona left this Sunday from Gare de Lyon. SNCF offers two round trips per day between Paris-Gare-de-Lyon and Barcelona. The first train departs at 9:42 AM (arriving at 4:25 PM) and the second at 2:56 PM (arriving at 9:25 PM).

The TGV is 65 times less polluting than the plane

“Taking the TGV between Paris and Barcelona is a concrete step towards preserving the planet, since it is the most eco-friendly form of public transport available,” announces SNCF. The TGV INOUI offer increases rail transport share and thus reduces carbon impact. According to SNCF, the TGV pollutes 65 times less than the plane or 26 times less than a thermal car. During the summer, the 100,000 trips between the two cities will save 25.6 tons of CO₂ compared to air travel.

Since sales opened on October 18, 2022, the TGV INOUI France-Spain offer has been very successful. The company sold more than 52,000 tickets, 38% of which cost less than 59 euros, enabling many trips for the holiday season. Ticket sales are currently open until May 2, 2023, allowing travelers to plan their trip with 6 months’ notice.

Paris-Barcelona: is the price really 39€?

In its press release, SNCF announces record fares starting at 39 euros. So we checked this information. During the holiday season, prices automatically increase. After verification, prices remain high throughout the year. Tickets at 39€ do exist but only on certain days in the middle of the week.

Generally, prices often exceed 59€ and can even soar above 140€. If you want a ticket at 39€, we recommend booking early and departing on a Wednesday.
