New Year's Eve 2023: Which free transportation is available in Paris and Île-de-France?

Practical for celebrating New Year 2023 safely, many metro lines, trains, and buses will be open and free in Paris and its suburbs. Here is the guide!

As every year, New Year’s Eve is synonymous with celebration throughout the capital and its surroundings. Transport services will be extended all night, with RATP, SNCF, and Île-de-France Mobilités deploying part of their fleets to bring as many people as possible home smoothly. However, not all metro lines, RER, or buses are affected, nor all stations. Here are the details of free transportation in Paris for New Year’s Eve.

6 of 14 metro lines ensure coverage for 2023 New Year’s Eve

Among the 14 metro lines in Paris, only six will remain open from 2:15 am to 5:30 am. The right bank will be better served with lines 1, 2, 5, 9, and 14, while the left bank will be covered only by line 6. The Paris metro will nonetheless close approximately one station out of two. Line 1: Château de Vincennes, Nation, Gare de Lyon, Bastille, Châtelet, Concorde, George V, Charles de Gaulle Étoile, Porte Maillot, Pont de Neuilly, La Défense

Fortunately, RER lines A, B, C, and D will also operate. They will connect the usual routes, with a few stations also closed.

37 bus lines to get home

Additionally, the Île-de-France region includes the “Transilien” train lines H, J, L, N, P, and R, covering all stations but only in the Paris-to-suburb direction. The network also adds tram T4 between Aulnay-sous-Bois and Bondy. Finally, the Noctilien night bus service will be fully active during New Year’s Eve 2023. In total, 37 lines will operate across Paris and the metropolitan area, departing from major Paris stations and Châtelet.
